Carefully scribed leaf
from a 13th century Friar's Bible. 48 lines of text per column. Text written on fine vellum in dark
brown ink in a remarkably small and fine script. Recto contains a
3 line initial H in blue. A lovely red penwork design originates
from the initial and fills the space between the two columns.
Verso contains a double line blue initial. A beautiful marginal
design in red extends from either side of the initial. Leaf
contains text from the Book of Jeremiah. The large initial "H"
opens chapter 49 and the "U" opens chapter 50. Minor
staining to recto margin which does not affect text. Size:
161x110 mm (approx 6.4 x 4.5 inches)
