Antiphonals were books containing the sung portions of the Divine
Office. The manuscript leaves offered here are large, typical of the
medieval book, so it could be shared by a choir.
The leaves featured here are uncut
from an early 16th century antiphonal written on vellum. 4-6 bars
of music on each side in a square notation.
Lyrics hand scribed in black ink with red rubrics. 3 large initial
written in red and black. First leaf is clean and bright with
minor staining to top of verso. Some staining and creasing to top
of second leaf. Leaf may be displayed
as one leaf or two leaves.
Size of bifolium : 495 x 676 mm (approx 19.5 x 26.6 inches).
