Lovely
manuscript leaf from a 15th century breviary written on vellum. 14
lines of text on each side scribed in a gothic hand with black ink and
red rubrics. Verso contains a beautiful border and lavishly
illuminated giant 7-line initial. Closely cropped foliate border
contains pink, blue, green, and red flowers as well as a generous
portion of gold. Text on recto is faded. The text contains a
powerful verse from the book of Job.

Pelli meae, consumptis carnibus, adhaesit os meum: et derelicta sunt
tantummodo labia circa dentes meos. Miseremini mei, miseremini mei,
saltem vos amici mei, quia manus
The flesh being consumed, my bone hath cleaved to my skin: and there are
left only lips about my teeth. Have mercy upon me, have mercy upon me,
at least you my friends, because the hand of our Lord hath touched me
(English translation)
