Charming leaf from a French Book
of Hours use of Rouen circa 1490. 23 lines of text on each side written
in Latin in a gothic script with brown ink on vellum. Two lovely double
line initials painted white and brown on a gold background with floral
design. Gorgeous floral border on each side with red, blue & white
flowers, green leaves, and acanthus leaves on a gold border. The borders
are not identical, thus the illuminator chose to vary his design rather
than tracing the same design through both sides. Tiny holes on bottom
margin of leaf due to natural flaws in the parchment. A lovely leaf.
