Charming leaf from a French Book
of Hours use of Rouen circa 1490. 24 lines of text on each side written
in Latin in a gothic script with brown ink on vellum. One lovely double
line initial painted white on a gold background. Gorgeous floral border on each side with red, blue &
pink
flowers, green leaves, and blue, white & pink acanthus leaves on a gold border. The borders
are not identical, thus the illuminator chose to vary his design rather
than tracing the same design through both sides. A lovely leaf.
