Antiphonals were books containing the sung portions of the Divine
Office. The manuscript leaf offered here is large, typical of the
medieval book, so it could be shared by a choir.
Leaf from early 16th century
written on vellum. Lyrics hand scribed in black ink with red
rubrics. Music written in black square notation on a red 5-line
stave. Verso contains 5 bars of music and a large red initial "S."
Recto contains 6 bars of music and a large initial "A." Distinct hair and flesh
sides.
