Antiphonals were books containing the sung portions of the Divine
Office. They were generally quite large so they could be shared by
a choir.
The leaf presented here is
exceptionally large, even for an antiphonal.
It is from an early 16th century
antiphonal written on vellum. 5 bars
of music on each side in a square notation.
Lyrics hand scribed in black ink with red rubrics. Verso contains
a large, elaborate initial "M" painted in red, white, and yellow.
Recto contains a large "A." Some dark residue to upper margin.
Minor staining to leaf.
